The room looks wonderful, the gospel choir is singing, the wedding party and guests are ready…wow!
The problem for us as photographers though was that we had to play 2nd fiddle to the TV cameras and the production. We couldn’t get near the action during the ceremony, and the only place we were allowed to stand we couldn’t really see so well even with our super long zooms. We are all about keeping a low profile during the ceremonies, but this was tricky for us. We knew that the TV coverage would get moving images the viewing audience wanted, but it was strange being so disconnected. The special moments we always cherish, such as catching the couple as they came out of the processional, had to be grabbed at risk of being physically hurled out of the way by a video camera operator. It’s all crazy in TV land, people!
